The third iteration of Noor Riyadh, the largest light art festival in the world, will take place in Riyadh from November 30, 2023, to December 16, 2023, and from November 30, 2023, to March 2, 2024, for the exhibition. Riyadh will be illuminated by elaborate light art installations, building projections, performances, and other activities during the citywide celebration. Five hubs’ worth of public places will display artwork.

The festival, with “The Bright Side of the Desert Moon” as its theme, is organized by Jérôme Sans (Lead Curator), Pedro Alonzo, Alaa Tarabzouni, and Fahad Bin Naif (Curators). It will include about 120 pieces of art by around 100 artists (including more than 35 from Saudi Arabia) from more than 35 different countries. Sans, who has a well-established career as a curator of significant biennials across the world and as the artistic director of important institutions in Europe, Asia, and Latin America, is one of the co-founders of Paris’ Palais de Tokyo.

Alonzo, a curator from Boston who works as an adjunct curator at the Dallas Contemporary in Texas, on the other hand, is known for producing exhibitions outside of traditional museum contexts. Tarabzouni and Bin Naif, both curators and artists based in Riyadh, use their different approaches to draw on their backgrounds in architecture to offer fresh viewpoints on urbanism and the built environment.

The JAX District will host the festival’s “Refracting Identities, Shared Futures” exhibition. Neville Wakefield, formerly of MoMA PS1, Frieze Projects, and Desert X, will co-direct the show’s curation alongside Maya Al Athel, Curator, who oversaw the festival’s 2022 creative direction.
Throughout the festival and exhibition, Noor Riyadh 2023 will offer over 500 community involvement programs for both adults and children. Noor Riyadh is a component of Riyadh Art, one of the largest public art efforts in the world, and was created with the goal of fostering local talent and enhancing Saudi Arabia’s cultural economy.
Through ten projects and two yearly events, Riyadh Art seeks to turn the Saudi capital into a “gallery without walls” with more than 1,000 public art works dispersed around the city.
Noor Riyadh has produced one-of-a-kind joyous moments throughout the city and given millions of people the chance to admire top-notch light artworks and explore Riyadh in a fresh way. Noor Riyadh celebrated a number of accomplishments in 2022, including hosting 2.8 million guests at the festival and taking home six Guinness globe Records, one of which was for hosting the biggest exhibition of light art in the entire globe.
